You are the house…
Earlier this week I held a kids meditation workshop for the second time in my therapy space, which is also my home. My own kids graciously participate and are so fantastic at helping other kids, some of who are at first a little shy, to feel comfortable.
We always begin the workshops with a few gentle yoga poses and breathing exercises to help break the ice and help get everyone into their body’s. At this last workshop I had the pleasure of witnessing my beautiful daughter who, after observing the nervousness in a couple of the other kids, cleverly utilised her unique brand of humour to make them feel comfortable. She has a classic physical comedy about her and said something in a funny voice, something quite simple, but got everyone into stitches and pretty soon thereafter, the kids who were nervous were completely at ease and cracking their own jokes too. The workshop continued on without a hitch, everybody reporting that they were relieved and really enjoyed themselves yay!
I got to witness an important lesson which was; embracing our humanness, feeling welcome and accepted (especially with humour), assists us to ease into anything that we’re not entirely comfortable with, or have resistance to. Usually our resistance will be due to a sense of fear, perhaps a need to feel that we belong, or a doubt that our unique personality or vibe will be valued. More importantly I learned how this is also a wonderful demonstration of what so often goes on within our own interior.
If we can welcome our own feelings the same way we might a person, we can assist ourselves to move through our challenges with so much more ease, even better still, if we can remember humour and accept ourselves just as we are.
This is what I had to say about it on Instagram too…
We are emotional beings & every feeling has it’s place.
Anytime we experience a fear or a doubt it’s a signal that we’re not quite in alignment with what we’re thinking about & there’s a part of us that needs a little extra information, time, etc.
When we can understand that we are not these fears or doubts themselves, that they do not define us & are just a part of us, then it becomes easier to move towards alignment.
A house is a sanctuary, a safe place with many rooms. We welcome our guests, we offer a drink & help them to feel comfortable. Everything eases with acceptance.
It’s important to accept ourselves for whatever we are feeling & recognize any resistance as helpful, instead of hindering.
When we can do this we frame the emotions in their proper place & simply ask to be shown what is needed.
Because what happens whenever we ask? It is given!
Oh and p.s. MEDITATE 😉
